Arrival Assistance at Big-Ten University
What am I gonna do after arrival at
airport?
Where will I stay? How to find my apartment, bank, and
bookstores?
Where to buy food? How to register my courses?
Just a few of of hundreds of questions and lots of
uncertainty after new international students' arrival.
IS is planning, with joint efforts from other local
partners, for the arrival picking-up and the welcome weeks for
students coming to Big-Ten University. Don't worry about above
questions by yourself. We help you solve them all. If you need
assistance during first week of your arrival, feel free to contact
is@ucbsc.com.Particularly, IS presents you the following free
services.
1. Free New Student Handbooks
IS provides 2000 free copies of the New
Student Handbooks at each Big-Ten University. The handbooks will be
distributed during the week of international students arrival days.
You can get a free hard copy at any of Handbook sponsor in your
university. The handbook will be distributed through international
student organizations, libraries, grocery stores, and restaurants.
The exact distribution locations will be posted one week in advance.
New students can also download the .PDF
version of the handbook in late July from IS_BBS.
2. 5000 FREE "Safe-Arrival" phone cards
The first thing for an international student
to do after arrival is to call his/her family. Don't forget to call
your family and lover and relax their worrying heart.
After providing 1000 free phone cards in 2005,
IS will provide 5000 free "Safe-Arrival" phone cards to
new students in 2006. Each student will have at least 30 minutes to
call your home country. IS encourages the friendship between new
students, and suggests two students share the same phone card.

3. Arrival Picking-up at PSU, UIUC, and Purdue
IS provides arrival picking-up services with
local partners at 3 universities (PSU, UIUC, and Purdue). Student coming to Purdue
University may are recommended to consider the Air-port picking-up
and Free Stay at Willowbrook West Apartment. See more information.
If you need picking up at PSU or UIUC,
please follow the instructions below.
How to apply for the Picking-up :
1. IS membership is recommended, but not required. If you don't have IS membership card, please apply the IS membership here.
2. Send email to is@ucbsc.com
with the following information. The phone card access information
will be sent to you by Email.
1): Name;
2): Your university ID;
3): University and City name:
4): Your flight information (for airport picking up):
5): Major and program (MS or Ph.D.);
6): Email address;
7): Your home country address and phone numbers;
